So what can you do with extra pet besides battle? Sending them to an Adventure!
This feature unlocks when your pet reaches intimacy level 5, and completed a simple quest from the pet NPC near Prontera South Gate.
After which, it could be found in your bag and look like this.
Then you could select which pet for specific adventure. Note that each adventure map will require a certain "Pet Ability" in order to get a rare chest. Using pet with out the suitable "Pet Ability" will give you similar rewards except for the rare chest. The rewards depend on your pet intimacy level and the pet level as well.
The rare chest will give you Colorful Shell and some mob drops or Pet EXP pots.
Sidenote: Pet Adventure will consume 60 minutes of your stamina (combat time) but it will give you zeny, job exp, base exp, drops, blueprints and even cards. It is useful when you do not have time to grind and if you're lucky, you could get valuable MINI/MVP drops which could be sold for a decent amount of zeny!
